Brilliance was defined in a simple one hour and forty-five minutes with James Wan’s highly anticipated horror sequel, Insidious: Chapter 2. This film pretty much gave Leigh Whannel and James Wan a VIP pass into the Masters of Horror lounge.
If you thought The Conjuring was great, oh, how you’ll love this little slice of fright– or should I say, BIG slice of fright! This had each one of my friends jumping and screaming in their seats (maybe a few Icees spilled). There were hardly any jump scares… just the clever brilliance of James Wan.
Insidious: Chapter 2 began right where we left off in Insidious. From there, I can’t say anything else. But, I will say that this film does explain the unexplained. It answers the unanswered. The way Leigh Whannel and James Wan unfolds the story it is just pure genius. The story is amazingly written, the scares are on point, the direction of the film was obviously great as well. Chapter 2 was just overall a fantastic horrifying ride.
…I will say — from what I saw — it looks like there could be an Insidious: Chapter 3… but, that’s just me. You watch it and tell me what you think. #DontGoAlone
Now, I am sure you are wondering why I am reviewing a movie like This Is the End, when this website is clearly for horror movies only. You’d be shocked to know that this film is actually a horror movie.
Based off a short film by Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel, This Is the End, starring Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, and Danny McBride plus many celebrity appearances, is a extremely hilarious, extremely bloody, really violent, and a very different (in a good way) film directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen himself. This is not like any other apocalyptic movie, this is definitely a classic. Although there are some very (very) inappropriate and gross scenes, This Is the End is sure to satisfy (everyone mature enough to handle it, that is).
This movie is basically a bunch of famous friends coming together and making a comedy movie with many great CGI effects, a ton of fake blood and guts, and lots of weed. But, that is not all what makes this movie so greatly made; there is the storyline. What they forget to mention in the trailers is that this movie is very biblical. Many appearances of demons and monsters… Even an exorcism now-and-then. Not the average demon, but one who has a little “rapey vibe” to it. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg did a brilliant job with this movie. This is a great example of what most of the movies these days lack… originality.
If you aren’t into very crude, sexual, messed up, immature, dark comedic gory movies filled with fire, demons, and complete terror… This isn’t for you.
Yes, the title is not a trick of the eye. Coming in January of 2014 and directed by David Bruckner, The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes. The release date of this film has been changed. In December, Dimension films announced that they hope to have the film done in time to have a January 3rd release date… But, who knows. This could change.
Taking place in the late 70’s, The Lost Tapes gives you a look of the horrors that occurred after the original book and movie. An ambitious female television news intern, on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world, leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror… only to unwittingly open a door to the unreal that she may never be able to close. This coming April, a new remake of the movie “The Evil Dead” hits theaters. They are calling it “The most terrifying film you will ever experience”. From the looks of this trailer and the photos, it seems as if it will be the most terrifying film I will ever experience. The voices and the way the demonic zombie/creature things look is just very disturbing. I definitely will not be seeing this alone.
We can all expect a very gory film from Fede Alvarez, director and writer of Evil Dead. Demonic zombie upchucking blood onto victims, smiling severed heads, and people being shredded to pieces by chainsaws. That all sounds good right? Evil Dead sounds more of a extremely disturbing film than a scary one. All the kills are VERY gory.
“I think it’s when people go like ‘what’s going on?’, because everything you see is real, but you know it’s all make-believe-but at the end of the day she (character) has no arms and she’s walking in front of you pouring blood all over the place… And I remember somebody was telling me ‘I was sure that she had her arms somewhere’, then suddenly she (character) falls all over her arms, and people are trying to figure out the tricks (gory special effects). I love that interaction.” Director and writer Fede Alvarez said during an interview with Screenrant.

Evil Dead hits theaters April 5, 2013!
This June, get ready for Will and Jaden Smith’s return to the big screen in “After Earth”. The story of a young man (Will Smith) and his son (Jaden Smith) who have crash landed onto a mysterious planet that is mostly known as Earth. “After Earth” takes place 1,000 years after it has been evacuated by humans. Everything on the planet has evolved to kill all humans who get in their way. Oh, yes, and I forgot to tell you one other thing… This is an M. Night Shyamalan film!
“After Earth” does look like an interesting story and has all the 4 good qualities of your average M. Night Shyamalan film:
1, pretty good actors. 2, a unique story with a twist (the mysterious, deadly planet turns out to be Earth). 3, it contains drama that makes the story even more unique. Last but not least… 4, it is a good chance this movie has a random quick cameo of Shyamalan.
Shyamalan hasn’t made a classic film since 2002 with “Signs”, or perhaps even further back in 1999 when he came out with “The Sixth Sense”. Shyamalan’s past 3-4 films weren’t as good as he could normally do. Let’s hope After Earth can be Shyamalan’s come back!
On the Friday before Halloween, NBC released a special remake of the hit ’60s show, The Munsters. Titled “Mockingbird Lane”, this remake added a new twist to the original series. As I said before, most of the characters in the show had many “modernized” modifications. In the 1960s, Herman is more goofy and funny… Here in this 2012 remake, Herman was more serious… Although this remake was very funny, there was also some drama and horror (as there should be in a Halloween special).
“Mockingbird Lane” had very good writing, nice cinematography, and amazing special effects! You could already tell from the first 5 minutes they spent a whole lot of money with this one. I really enjoyed this remake, and I hope they could make it into a series… Just a thought.
That is pretty much all there is to say about this one! If you didn’t catch it, it comes on again some time this weekend! I recommend you watch this if you are a Munsters fan… If you’re not really a Munsters fan, there’s still a good chance you may still enjoy this.
