“This Is the End” (2013) – Review

this is the end

Now, I am sure you are wondering why I am reviewing a movie like This Is the End, when this website is clearly for horror movies only. You’d be shocked to know that this film is actually a horror  movie.

Based off a short film by Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel, This Is the End, starring Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, and Danny McBride plus many celebrity appearances, is a extremely hilarious, extremely bloody, really violent, and a very different (in a good way) film directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen himself. This is not like any other apocalyptic movie, this is definitely a classic. Although there are some very (very) inappropriate and gross scenes, This Is the End is sure to satisfy (everyone mature enough to handle it, that is).

This movie is basically a bunch of famous friends coming together and making a comedy movie with many great CGI effects, a ton of fake blood and guts, and lots of weed. But, that is not all what makes this movie so greatly made; there is the storyline. What they forget to mention in the trailers is that this movie is very biblical. Many appearances of demons and monsters… Even an exorcism now-and-then. Not the average demon, but one who has a little “rapey vibe” to it. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg did a brilliant job with this movie. This is a great example of what most of the movies these days lack… originality.

If you aren’t into very crude, sexual, messed up, immature, dark comedic gory movies filled with fire, demons, and complete terror… This isn’t for you.

Evil Dead (2013) – Preview

Evil Dead

This coming April, a new remake of the movie “The Evil Dead” hits theaters. They are calling it “The most terrifying film you will ever experience”. From the looks of this trailer and the photos, it seems as if it will be the most terrifying film I will ever experience. The voices and the way the demonic zombie/creature things look is just very disturbing. I definitely will not be seeing this alone.

EVil Dead zombie

We can all expect a very gory film from Fede Alvarez, director and writer of Evil Dead. Demonic zombie upchucking blood onto victims, smiling severed heads, and people being shredded to pieces by chainsaws. That all sounds good right? Evil Dead sounds more of a extremely disturbing film than a scary one. All the kills are VERY gory.

“I think it’s when people go like ‘what’s going on?’, because everything you see is real, but you know it’s all make-believe-but at the end of the day she (character) has no arms and she’s walking in front of you pouring blood all over the place… And I remember somebody was telling me ‘I was sure that she had her arms somewhere’, then suddenly she (character) falls all over her arms, and people are trying to figure out the tricks (gory special effects). I love that interaction.” Director and writer Fede Alvarez said during an interview with Screenrant.

“The Possession” (2012) – Preview & the TRUE STORY

“The Possession” is a new horror flick hitting theaters August 31st! It is centered on a young girl who buys an antique box at a yard sale, is unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl’s father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child (IMDB). They say this film is based off of a true story… Is it? Believe it or not, it is. According to Horror Film Wiki, this is the true story:

Ebay seller Iosif Nietzke, a Missouri college student, who sold an ancient Jewish wine cabinet box online, and warned buyers of the bad luck that came with it–for example, he was only in his 20s and had started losing his hair when he got the box.

Buyers bid on the box very quickly, even knowing about the “bad luck”. It sold for $280 to a museum curator named Jason Haxton. After he bought the box, The Forward, a 107-year-old Jewish newspaper, published an article about the mysteries behind the box.

Many rabbis and other high-level Jewish scholars have offered to open the box and one even asked Haxton to take all images of the box off the Internet because it would serve as a way for spirits to invade homes. The spirit people are worried about is the “Dybbuk”, which is supposed to be a malevolent spirit of a dead person.

Pretty interesting, right? This upcoming flick looks very horrifying! I am super excited for this new movie which is produced by Sam Raimi! What do you think about this flick? While you’re thinking, check out this chilling clip from “The Possession”!
