“Oculus” Teaser Trailer Released, starring Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan

From the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious, comes perhaps 2014’s greatest horror hit.

Starring Karen Gillan (Amy Pond of Doctor Who), “Oculus” is a horror film that centers around a woman who tries to exonerate her brother, who was convicted of murder, by proving that the crime was committed by a supernatural phenomenon.

From the looks of the newly released trailer above, this horror looks like it has the potential to be on the list of 2014’s best horrors. Unfortunately, we have to wait until April to find out.

What do you guys think?

See Oculus April 11th.

New “American Horror Story” Fan-made Horror Series made by fans, for fans!

American Horror Stories

In August 2013, American Horror Stories uploaded it’s first teaser in honor of the hit FX horror anthology series, “American Horror Story”.  Created by Michael Davis, Zachary Simon, and Jessie Jones, this YouTube fan-made webseries has sparked up over 700+ subscribers and has over 5k hits. On October 28th, they released their first episode entitled “Misery’s Company”.

One night, after watching a full season of AHS on Netflix, I decided to look up some old AHS promos and stumbled upon this little piece of treasury. I’ve watched every episode of American Horror Stories, and I must say, it is the best fan-made series I have seen so far on the web.  The writing of each episode is very well done and even better executed. Here is one of the bone-chilling promos created by these hardcore fans of the FX show, “American Horror Story”.

What do you think?

Since October 28th, American Horror Stories has had a total of four episodes in this first season that centers on a woman named Jessica who has recently moved into a wood-surrounded apartment complex, known as Coldhill Estates, after a stressing divorce. One thing Jessica didn’t look much into on her new home was the history. Coldhill has a very, very terrifying and nightmarish background. In American Horror Stories, terror takes a new form.

FAMILIAR (2012) – Review

Familiar (2012)

Familiar, from producer Zach Green and writer/director Richard Powell, is possibly one of the greatest psychological horror  films I’ve ever seen. In less than 25 minutes, Green and Powell succeeded in telling the story of a boring man named John with a wife and one daughter. John, played by Robert Nolan, narrates his life in a very poetic manner, explaining his very dull and unexciting life. To make things worse, John discovers his wife Charlotte is having another baby. This is where everything takes a wild turn.

During a very disturbing psychological meltdown, the “voice of reason” in John’s head turns the tables and begins to take control of him. It’s almost as if something inexplicably evil has possessed the already messed-up John.

Familiar at first seems like your average psychological horror short, but it then completely takes a sharp turn into something else. Something else meaning something so brilliantly terrifying, it will leave you at the very edge of your seat shivering. I haven’t seen much from Fatal Pictures, but now I am craving more.  And I am ashamed to say, that when I first watched the teaser trailer, I wasn’t expecting much. But, man, did I get much. Fatal Pictures’ work is much greater and deserves much more attention than what you see in today’s horror/thriller films.

In short, this is horror done correctly.

Evil Dead (2013) – Preview

Evil Dead

(source)

This coming April, a new remake of the movie “The Evil Dead” hits theaters. They are calling it “The most terrifying film you will ever experience”. From the looks of this trailer and the photos, it seems as if it will be the most terrifying film I will ever experience. The voices and the way the demonic zombie/creature things look is just very disturbing. I definitely will not be seeing this alone.

EVil Dead zombie

We can all expect a very gory film from Fede Alvarez, director and writer of Evil Dead. Demonic zombie upchucking blood onto victims, smiling severed heads, and people being shredded to pieces by chainsaws. That all sounds good right? Evil Dead sounds more of a extremely disturbing film than a scary one. All the kills are VERY gory.

“I think it’s when people go like ‘what’s going on?’, because everything you see is real, but you know it’s all make-believe-but at the end of the day she (character) has no arms and she’s walking in front of you pouring blood all over the place… And I remember somebody was telling me ‘I was sure that she had her arms somewhere’, then suddenly she (character) falls all over her arms, and people are trying to figure out the tricks (gory special effects). I love that interaction.” Director and writer Fede Alvarez said during an interview with Screenrant.

The Munsters Return!

(source)

This Friday October 26th, The Munsters return with a new re-booted TV movie, “Mockingbird Lane”. When I was younger, I was a huge fan of the original 1960’s sitcom “The Munsters”. My favorite character was Herman (a parody of  Frankenstien’s Monster), whom will be portrayed by Jerry O’Connell. The vampire bride of Herman (Lily Munster) will be played by Portia de Rossi, the chill vampire Grandpa will be played by Eddie Izzard, Eddie Munster (the Werewolf child) will be played by Mason Cook, and last but not least, Marilyn will be played by Charity Wakefield.

Are you excited about this remake? I most definitely am! And if you check out the trailer, you’ll see they modernized all the characters a bit more. Herman doesn’t have the stereotypical Frankenstein bolts in his neck as he did in the 60’s show. He is more “normal” looking. The other characters have also have some modifications. Check out the trailer, and tell me what you think!
